To work as a medical assistant (MA) in Utah, you are not required to obtain formal education or certification. However, a high school diploma or GED suffices for some employers since training is generally done on the job.
Rather than provide an official list of tasks for which MAs are responsible, the state of Utah has determined what MAs cannot do, even with the direct supervision of a licensed professional. These restrictions include:
- Diagnosing ailments
- Establishing treatment plans
- Independently treating patients
- Prescribing medications
